This week (7-13th April 2025)

Passengers await the arrival of the first train from the newly reopened platform at Sittingbourne Viaduct station on Saturday 5th April 2025.

Trains will be running on Sunday

Trains will be departing Sittingbourne Viaduct station at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm & 4pm, returning at 1.35pm, 2.35pm, 3.35pm and 4.45pm from Kemsley Down. The journey takes 15 minutes, you may return on any train.

We are running every Sunday and Bank Holiday until the end of September.

Return (there-and-back) fares are:

  • £9 for adults
  • £4.50 for children (3-15)
  • Infants aged under 3 travel free
  • £8 for senior citizens
  • £24 for families (2 adults and 4 children)
  • Other fares available

‘Premier’ and a loaded pulp wagon climb the bank from Lloyd’s Wharf to Sittingbourne paper mill. This ramp is now our step-free access route.

We need your help!

You may have seen Sunday’s post about our step-free access, it’s here if you haven’t seen it.

Please email the Planning Department with your comments about the potential loss of step-free access at Sittingbourne Viaduct station – having spent around £50k on improving the station, plus thousands of volunteer hours, to make it step-free from the street to the train, it is incredibly disappointing that the planning application for new housing on Lloyd’s Wharf has proposed digging out the ramp.

The ramp was originally constructed over 100 years ago to enable trains to run from Lloyd’s Wharf directly into the paper mill without any public level crossings. We have been using the ramp for step-free access since 2021 and it has enabled many more people to visit the Railway than ever before because they don’t need to climb the metal steps.

Full details of how to respond to a planning application can be found here.

Back in 2021, we received funding from HM Government’s Culture Recovery Fund to open the ramp for step-free access (this was during the pandemic) – here’s a graphic after our bid was accepted. Now we may be forced to go back to only having stepped access.
